Facts about MC Big Proof

“If I was you, suicide would be a way of life. If you was me , you’d kill you.” (Proof)

Before I start talking about D12’s gifted Mc Proof, I would like to thank and to give credit to the webmaster of the following Derty Harry website for the rare info I found about Deshaun Holton aka Derty Harry aka Proof:

[http://angelfire.com/bxc3/dertyharry/main_bio.html]Deshaun Holton aka Proof was born on October the 2nd 1975 in Detroit. Although they didn’t attend the same High School, Eminem and Proof have been friends since 1988. They used to live in the same street in Detroit. Proof used to go to Osbourne High school while Eminem was attending Lincoln High. Both friends used to skip high school in order to rap together: in fact Eminem skipped Lincoln High and used to come to Proof’s school very often, because both friends wanted to rap together. This is how they met:

“I was skipping school, and he was skipping school also, passing out flyers for his concert he was having in Centerline. That had to be, like, '88 or something.” (Proof)

Some (white) underground Mcs from Detroit like Backstab the Kingpin are convinced of Proof’s racism. But Deshaun’s statements seem to prove the contrary.

CDNow has asked Proof how he felt about Eminem’s skin color at the time they met:

CDNow: Did you wonder what this blond, white kid was up to?

Proof: “You know, I went to Catholic school and had a great, great friend of mine who happened to be Irish; we were best friends since the sixth grade. So when I saw [Eminem] was white, I didn't even jump off like that; when he rapped, he was dope. What made us get dope and become great friends was we both rhymed "first place" and "birthday," and we've been tight ever since [laughs].”

Eminem and Proof have been real friends since the beginning. When Eminem was kicked out of his home, he would sleep at Proof’s house. It is well known that Proof is an amazing freestyler. He won the freestyling competition in the Source magazine in 1999. He his a better freestyler than Marshall, but Marshall’s force is in the way he handles his words in his lyrics. That’s exactly what Proof states about their complementary talent:

“We were both impressed with each other. The advantage I've got over Em is freestyling; I'm the kind of guy who freestyles off the head, right? The advantage he had over me was that he knew how to write intricately; he knew how to put a song together and bring feelings about. That's why I journeyed under him, like, "Yo, show me the ropes, homeboy."

The idea of the D12 group composed of talented MCs and sick aliases with popped into Proof’s mind:

"I was in New York; I had this deal with Tommy Boy that didn't work out, unfortunately. But I just had this idea that we could put together a team of dope MCs, put a lot of Detroit on as far as having MCs with skills. Everybody's solo took so we'll make aliases, like Eminem's Slim Shady and I'm Derty Harry, and call it the Dirty Dozen -- and at this time, to be honest with you, we thought The Dirty Dozen was a Western movie; we didn't know it was an army movie [laughs]. That fits us, army rather than Western, 'cause we see ourselves more as gun-slingers, lyric-slingers. Then the idea was to form a pact whereas this team, whoever gets out first comes back and gets the rest of the group."

Proof has always been confident in Eminem’s loyalty, even if some other members of the group may have been worried:

“Not me; I've been there since day one, almost. I think the rest of the group may not have been there, but Proof has been beside Eminem all this time. I play a leadership role in the group, where I talk to everyone else; Em is like the president, and I'm the general. I talk to the rest of the fellas and put 'em in line and show 'em the direction. It's a family, too, so there'll be a lot of fighting and bickering, and some people might have felt it might not be the way it should be. So, yes, there were times when people felt funny about things. But now everybody thinks back to that, and we were tripping out over nothing.”

Acccording to Proof, Eminem’s success was the best thing that could have happened to D12:

“Right. Some people look at us like, "You're gonna be Eminem's group. You're gonna be in his shadow." They don't realize how positive and great that is to hear; if you're in the shadow of a guy who can sell almost 10 million records in just the states alone, great. That's not a dis to us. But when they hear the album, they hear the individuality of each person, how everybody holds their own.”

It is so true that each D12 emcee has his own talent and ability to rap.

It is less known that Proof’s first stage name was “Maximum”. Proof has always been appreciated in Detroit for his raps and his freestyling qualities. He changed his nickname when people started calling him “Living Proof”, because in many people’s minds, Proof was the “living proof of the living MCs in Detroit".

Proof has collaborated and still collaborates with numerous artists such as Dogmatic. Proof’s first released Cd was called “From Death” and was co-produced with Da Goon Squad.

He has released a CD called “Promatic” with Dogmatic and a six Track solo EP called “The Search For Jerry Garcia”. As well as for Eminem, Detroit has been very influential to Proof who describes his hometown as “the type of place where eye contact can get you killed” and also as “ a city where the sun never shines, full of pot holes, snow and con artists ready to jack everything you got”.

One Stepfather's Story - Sergeant Philip Harrison

An All-State guard in high school, James Toney, was offered a basketball scholarship to play at Seton Hall. James struggled with drug addiction. In 1973, he was jailed for drug possession when his son was still an infant. When he was released, James agreed to give up his parental visitation rights to his son's stepfather, Philip A. Harrison, and his mother, Lucille.

At 21 years old, his stepson wrote, "When my mother needed someone 21 years ago, Philip Harrison was the man...My father joined the Army when I was two so he could make a better living and also so he could get us out of the 'hood. I was born two years before my parents were married." In an interview, he expressed, "Just because you bring a child into the world, it doesn't make you a father."

Sergeant (Sgt) Harrison watched his stepson leave the house for his first day of school. He was the one who admired his elementary school artwork on the refrigerator. Sgt Harrison was the one who disciplined his stepson. He saw his first basketball dunk. Sgt Harrison eventually moved his family to Wildlflecken (Bavaria), Germany where he was stationed as a drill instructor. Even after entering his stepson's life, his stepson had a habit of acting out and getting into trouble.

Life for his stepson was difficult, but eventually Sgt Harrison was able to help his stepson reverse his course. While living in Germany, he continued to rebel (getting in fights, hitting teachers, breaking into cars, etc.) in hopes he would be sent back to the U.S. Sgt Harrison ended that dream telling his stepson, " Look, son, now matter what you do, I'm not letting them send you back. And if you don't listen to me, I'm going to beat your butt. Every...single...day."

Sgt Harrison's stepson went on to play basketball in college and the NBA. Here are just a few of his son's career highlights and awards:

NBA Rookie of the Year (1993) 4x NBA Champion (2000, 2001, 2002 & 2006) 3x NBA Finals MVP (2000-2002) NBA Most Valuable Player (2000) Gold Medal Olympic Games (Atlanta 1996)

During his playing days, he went by many nicknames: Superman, The Big Cactus, The Diesel, or The Big Shamrock. Now retired from basketball, Shaquille O'Neal or Shaq is best known as one of the most dominant players in the history of the NBA. In addition to his basketball career, Shaquille O'Neal has released four rap albums, with his first going platinum. He's also appeared in several films and starred in his own reality shows. Shaquille is currently an analyst on the television program "Inside the NBA."

As a result of his stepfather's influence and military background, Shaquille O'Neal has made a public service a priority in his life. His service ranges from donations to charities and organizations across the country to working as a reserve police officer in Los Angeles, Miami and Phoenix. As far as his career in law enforcement, "I am not a hero. My [step]father was my hero growing up."

Evaluating Pet Insurance Plans: Important Things to Know

With everything else increasing in prices nowadays, pet insurance plans are becoming popular. Many pet owners are considering taking out this kind of insurance for their favored pets in order to save health care costs especially when their pets get sick or injured.

There are many pet insurers out there. Many of them are in cutthroat competition in offering every possible insurance deals they can think of that it has become quite confusing in choosing who among those plans is the best.

In choosing the best pet health insurance, it is smart to do pet insurance reviews.

Here are some important things to know that you should consider while evaluating this insurance plan:

1. Pet Insurance Differs

There are many types of insurance plans for pets out there and they have different insurance coverage. You must make sure that you know and understand exactly what the plan covers. Most policies for this insurance just cover illness and injury. Make sure to check whether routine care such as annual exams, vaccinations, teeth cleaning, and blood and urine testing are part of the policy or can be added options.

2. Pet's Age and Breed Matter

A pet's age and breed can influence and determine the cost of a pet health insurance plan. You must take into account your pet's age and breed. It is more expensive to insure older pets than younger ones. Depending on their breed, some pets may not qualify or are non-insurable if they are older than a certain age. Moreover, there are certain breeds that necessitate higher premiums for they are at a higher risk of more frequent and costly health problems than others.

Some other factors to be considered that can affect the insurance are your house location and whether your pet lives indoors or outdoors.

3. Compare its Prices/ Costs

Research and compare monthly premiums, deductibles, the reimbursement percentage, and the benefit schedule. Different insurers have different ways of setting the price, so always get a pet insurance quote for your specific circumstances to compare between insurers.

4. Consider the Excess

Some pet insurers include a high excess on their policies. This is their way to save them money when it comes to paying out claims.

Basically, the excess is the amount that you have to pay each time you have to claim for a certain condition, so when you choose a cheaper product with a higher excess, this could actually end up costing you more money.

5. Learn How It Works

All pet insurance plans enable you to make use of any licensed veterinarian or animal health clinic in the country or even in other countries if you're traveling. You can use any licensed veterinarian you want for all pet insurers will allow claims from any licensed veterinarian.

6. It Does NOT Cover Pre-Existing Conditions

Pet owners will have to pay 100% for any excluded conditions that are not covered by the policy. One such exclusion is pre-existing conditions.

7. Veterinary Bills Are Paid Out Of Your Own Pocket.

Because this insurance is considered a form of property insurance, you must settle your veterinary bill first out of your own pocket. Then you can submit your claim to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Student Travel Health Insurance - How to Get Travel Insurance for Students

The Canadian Scholar's Guide to Student Travel Health Insurance

Studying abroad is a great opportunity for students as it allows them the chance to expand their horizons. Many find it a life changing experience. If you are a Canadian student planning to pursue your studies in a foreign county, you do not have to worry about issues regarding health insurance during your trip abroad. In this article, you will find some reassuring facts, as well as a few helpful tips on student travel health insurance. Be well informed before your journey begins.

What should I do to extend my health care coverage?

If you are leaving the country for an extended period of time, you might be wondering what steps to take in order not to lose your Canadian health insurance benefits. Before your departure, you must contact your provincial healthcare office to apply for a special insurance card. If you do not advise them of your travel plans, your insurance will lapse after 180 - 212 days from your date of departure. As a traveling student, you can remain eligible for healthcare benefits until your return to your province, as long as you keep your healthcare status updated.

To apply for a special annual health insurance card, you need to present a letter of admission from the school you are going to attend, a copy of your birth certificate and a letter requesting extended insurance coverage. Upon submission of these documents, you will receive a certificate confirming your eligibility for this type of coverage.

Note that Canadian provinces differ in terms of health insurance coverage. For instance, if you are a resident of Manitoba, the amount redeemed for a particular medical procedure performed outside the country would be equal to the cost of that medical procedure having been performed in Manitoba. So be sure to gather information on your own provincial healthcare coverage for traveling students.

Should I get supplemental student health insurance?

Whether you are going to study abroad or are just traveling to another province in Canada, you would benefit from having supplemental student travel health insurance. Such plans are designed to complement provincial insurance coverage. Because your provincial health plan often covers only a portion of the cost of medical treatment or service in other countries or provinces, you need to make up the difference from your own pocket; hence, supplemental health insurance can alleviate concerns over not only health issues, but also budget woes.

Most post-secondary schools require that their students be covered by a student health insurance plan. So before you begin your out-of-province studies, shop around and get quotes from several companies in order to compare rates and terms. Questions to ask should include:

For how long will I be covered? Will it be possible to renew my policy from other parts of the world? What will be the cost of my premiums? What is my deductible?

There are a variety of student travel health insurance plans to choose from, and a little research will help you decide what best suits your needs.

What does my student travel health insurance cover?

Plans vary from company to company, but on average they generally cover treatment for sickness and medical care for accidents. Some plans will not cover pregnancy, pre-existing medical conditions, or annual medical check-ups. Read the insurance company's policy thoroughly (including the small print) before signing the document as your coverage may have certain limitations and/or exclusions.

Does student travel insurance cover flight cancellations or lost luggage?

If you want to ensure coverage for flight cancellations and/or insurance against lost luggage, you must purchase a travel insurance package that offers that specific type of coverage. Do not automatically assume that you are covered against such incidents during your travels. Always check the terms and conditions of your policy.

Do I need supplemental student travel health insurance if I am going to study in another Canadian province?

Medical costs vary from province to province and government healthcare insurance plans have limits on coverage of medical expenses incurred during your stay in another province. Therefore, it is wise to protect yourself, and any family member(s) staying with you during your travels outside your province of residence.

Do some medical emergencies have limits on coverage?

Ambulance costs, emergency dental work, prescription drugs for sudden illness, follow-up visits and out-patient visits, as well as other general medical services may not be covered, or may be only partially covered, under your plan.

Hopefully some of your questions regarding Canadian healthcare coverage and student travel health insurance have been answered. Extensive research on the topic of insurance could enhance your future as an outbound Canadian student. Bon Voyage!

The Ghosts of The Tower of London Pt2

In this final instalment of The Ghosts of the Tower of London, you will learn about the fate of Catherine Howard and discover the treachery behind the death of Lady Jane Grey who was Queen of England for only nine days.

The most grisly execution and thus haunting is that of the 70 year old Countess of Salisbury, the last of the Plantagenets. King Henry VIII had her executed for political reasons. The feisty Countess refused to put her head on the block like a common traitor. When her executioner came after her she ran, but was pursued by him, with his axe in hand hacking at her until he had hewn the Countess to death.

Her ghost has been seen reliving this truly gruesome act. Also the shadow of a great axe has been seen falling across the scene of her murder.

At one time the Tower of London was home to the Royal Menagerie. Lions, leopards, bears, birds, monkeys and an elephant, that was a gift from the King of France, were kept on exhibit. On the stroke of midnight in January of 1815 a sentry saw a bear from this menagerie emerge from a doorway. He lunged at it with his bayonet, it passed right through the apparition. The Sentry was later found unconscious, it is said he died of fright within two months of this encounter.

Something unseen and very frightening is in the Salt Tower. This is one of the most haunted areas of the Tower of London complex. This is a very old section, dogs will not enter this ancient building, and ever since one of the Yeoman Warders was nearly throttled by a force unseen, they will not go in the area after nightfall.

In 1864, a soldier whose post was to guard the Queen's House at the Tower of London, saw a apparition so real, that after ignoring the soldiers three challenges, he charged with all his might at the intruder with his bayonet, only to go straight through the figure.

He was found unconscious at his post and was court-martialled for neglecting his duty. Luckily there were two witnesses who corroborated his story. The soldier was eventually acquitted.

Lady Jane Grey is another tragic story of a young life cut short at the Tower, due to the actions of others the most despicable of who was her own father.

She was the granddaughter of Mary (Henry VIII younger sister) and Louis XII of France. The Duke of Northumberland would lose everything if Henry VIII's son was to die and Mary, who was Catholic, would become queen.

He and her father arranged her marriage to his son and persuaded her cousin Edward VI to name her his successor in case of his death instead of his two half-sisters. When Edward VI died she was crowned Queen of England, but the supporters of Mary overthrew her.

Her own father got scared and in hopes to save his own skin, left the Tower of London and went to Tower Hill to proclaim Mary I, as the Queen of England, Lady Jane never left the tower; she and her husband were immediately imprisoned and sentenced to death. Queen Mary carried out the execution of Lady Jane's father-in-law but set both Jane and her husband free.

Her father was involved in a rebellion against Mary I, Lady Jane and her husband were again placed in the tower. Lady Jane watched as her husband was taken to Tower Hill where he was beheaded. She saw his body being carried back to the chapel, after which she was taken to Tower Green where she was beheaded. She was only 17 years old.

Lady Jane Grey's ghost was last seen by two Guardsmen on February 12, 1957, the 403rd anniversary of her execution. She was described as a "white shape forming itself on the battlements". Her husband, Guildford Dudley, has been seen in Beauchamp Tower weeping.

Catherine Howard escaped from her room in the Tower of London. "She ran down the hallway screaming for help and mercy. She was caught and returned to her room." The next day she was beheaded. Her ghost has been seen sill running down the hallway screaming for help.

Other strange sightings at the Tower of London have been "Phantom funeral carriages" and "A lovely veiled lady that, upon closer look proves to have a black void where her face should be."

This concludes the brief insight to the Ghosts of The Tower of London. I hope this has fired your imagination enough so that you want to learn more about the Towers most GRUESOME PAST.

Understanding Legal Staffing Companies

Law firms and other companies within the law industry operate on an uncertain schedule. One week might be light, with a few cases being worked on, while other weeks will feel chaotic because of an influx of new business. These firms usually cannot fulfill all of their duties during times of increased business, which is why many bring in outside help. Legal services companies exist to provide support for these firms, and can provide assistance in a number of areas, like legal staffing and deposition services. Whether a firm finds itself in over its head, or when it simply wishes to increase organizational efficiency, bringing in a legal services company will be a worthwhile investment. The following lists some of the services such companies provide.

Legal Staffing

Whether a firm feels that it lacks the human resources staff to find qualified employees, or it simply wants to outsource this task to save money, it will find that many legal services companies assist with legal staffing. These companies will develop a job description based on supplied information, seek out qualified candidates, consult their own databases for additional candidates, and create a short list of finalists for the firm to consider. This reduces the risk involved in the hiring process, as candidates are properly vetted, and also cuts down on costs since legal staffing services are only paid for once the position is filled. Legal staffing assistance is also available for part-time or temporary positions, since companies can consult their databases to fill immediate needs.

Court Reporting

Firms need court reporters for hearings and depositions, because they provide an impartial record of the events that take place. Legal services companies will usually have experienced court reporters available in one's area, and these professionals will have been properly qualified so that they do not show up dressed unprofessionally or unable to type fast enough.

Deposition Services

Following a deposition, there is still much work to be done. A legal services company that says it offers deposition services might be referring to everything from:

Scheduling the deposition: the company can help a firm or group of attorneys find a place or time for the deposition to be held. Reviewing Documents: the company will do a number of things before the deposition to make documents easier to approach, including reviewing documents for confidentiality, noting key terms, coding the documents, and helping to build an evidentiary database. Providing a deposition summary: the company will rely on its in-house legal professionals to sift through notes and court reporter logs to pinpoint important details and provide this summary for attorney use.

The company might provide additional deposition services, so it is best to reach out to the legal services company to communicate the firm's needs.

Record Retrieval

The company will handle the "red tape," or the process of obtaining important documents through subpoenas and authorizations.

To find additional legal services provided by these companies, speak to a local provider of these services.

Bad Links You're Not Thinking Of

The term "bad links" can apply to a number of different types of links but they can all cause damage to your site in one way or another without your even realizing it most times. Let's take a look at some types of bad links you might not be thinking of which you would benefit from by getting rid of if possible.

Dead Links

Dead links are bad links for a number of reasons. They make your site look sloppy and untended. They will annoy your readers. Spiders can't crawl them. Google even says in their webmaster guidelines (which according to them by following them will give you the best chances of ranking) that you should check for broken or dead links. You can use a free plugin like Broken Link Checker which will routinely check every backlink on your site to make sure that they are all functioning and intact. If when testing a link it cannot access the linked page it will notify you so that you can test it and delete it or look into it accordingly.

Link Profile

You might perform an entire audit of the links coming into your site. Use your Google webmaster tools or again a service like Open Site Explorer or Ahrefs to look at your links. You can also learn things like what anchor text you have pointing to your site so that you can gauge the amount of over optimization you're dealing with.

You may have created links from particular sites and sources to your site in the past which seemed like good ideas at the time before the most recent Google updates were made but now you know that you're better off without them (links from Build My Rank or similar institutions come to mind).

Bad Incoming Links You Didn't Create

If someone ripped off one of your articles, possibly copied it word for word and published it on their spammy scammy site, Google might connect you with the spammy site because you're sharing the same content. It would especially create a problem if you included a link to somewhere else on your site.

While Ezine and similar article directories are very handy and powerful for getting valuable links to your site through article syndication, you have to take the good with the bad as a spammy site can just as easily grab your content and publish it on their site. It could be on a site which has nothing to do with your niche, even, just a massive spammy content aggregation site which took your article and kept your resource box intact so that you now have a link to your site from a site which Google doesn't look upon favorably and it's all through no fault of your own.

You might think about using CopyScape to see who has been republishing your content (with or without your permission, depending on where you've published it yourself). If a spammy site won't take down your content after you try contacting them, you can always contact Google and tell them that you're trying to get it removed and they can make a note to distance you from that site. Just a handful of bad links from the worst possible sources can bring you down, so if you come across something then whatever you can do will help.

You can also use CopyScape to see who has been publishing your content WITHOUT your resource box as sometimes there will be a site which you would like to have a link from but they take your content without giving you the link.

Malthusian Mythology

In 1798, Thomas Malthus published a pamphlet titled An Essay on the Principle of Population, in which he asserted that the burgeoning population of the human race was on the verge of exhausting the abilities of the planet to support them, and that mass starvation was imminent. The population of the world in 1798 was just short of a billion; 210 years later, we have a population of 7 billion and starvation is less severe today than it was in Malthus' England.

Humans display a curious fascination with disaster, which explains rubber-necking at traffic accidents and the popularity of movies such as The Towering Inferno, The Poseidon Adventure, and in fact any movie featuring exploding cars and lots of people getting shot. This characteristic has often been utilized by people trying to push a particular agenda or ideology. For example, in the 1930s, cast iron cookware manufactures convinced many people that cooking in the newly introduced aluminum cookware would contaminate their food with poisonous aluminum sulfide.

Of course, informed people knew that aluminum is an extremely active metal and that, upon exposure to air, it immediately forms a hard oxide coating. Thus you're not cooking on aluminum, you're cooking on aluminum oxide - an inert compound so hard that we make knife sharpening stones out of it, and incidentally a major component of clay, on which man has been cooking for more than 10,000 years.

After World War II destroyed socialism in Germany and Italy, advocates of international socialism regrouped and rebounded with a barrage of neo-Malthusian propaganda aimed at man's disaster fascination. in the early 1960s, the Club of Rome, a group of world socialists founded in 1958 in Bellagio, Italy under the auspices of David Rockefeller, isolated a two year rapid increase in population growth (which was actually the natural recovery from a drop in population growth in the late 1950s) to "prove" that world population was exploding.

In the 1970s, in the depths of a period of reduced solar radiation, the neo-Malthusian alarmists declared that industrial pollution was driving the earth into a new "ice age." Manufacturing facilities were gleefully shut down across the northern states to conserve gas needed to heat homes, and there was talk of air-dropping tons of carbon black onto the polar and Greenland ice sheets to reverse the effects of man's "reckless damaging of the environment."

When solar radiation increased in the 1980s and the planet warmed again, the neo-Malthusians found a new target - Freon. Freon, it was claimed, destroyed ozone in the atmosphere and hence needed to be banned. The facts that this assertion had never been demonstrated in a laboratory and that ozone, being the result of sun light acting on oxygen, would be immediately recreated by the sun if it were to be destroyed, did not stop the extremists from getting international signatories to the Montreal Protocol, which placed severe stresses on at least three industries that use Freon: urethane foam manufacturing, air conditioning, and medical device sterilization.

"Ah," you may say, "but 'scientists' did find a 'hole' in the ozone over the South Pole." Ah yes, but have you ever asked yourself why such a phenomenon, supposedly caused by humans, should occur over the South Pole where there are no humans? I'll tell you why. One evening in the 1980s, two college professors were sitting in a bar, and they happened to overhear two engineers discussing the fact that a strong south magnetic field deinonizes negative ions. One professor said to the other, "I'll bet there's a thin spot in the ozone over the south pole." The other professor said, "And I'll bet we can get millions of dollars in government grants to go down there and 'study' it."

The northern lights, or aurora borealis, is caused by the north magnetic pole of the earth ionizing gases in the atmosphere; conversely the earth's south magnetic pole deinonizes ions - like ozone. That thin spot in the ozone layer over the south pole has been there for billions of years before man even evolved on this planet. What? Did you think the penguins were using hair spray?

In the 1990s, as the effects of the sun's warming trend began to be felt, we were besieged with alarms of "global warming," caused, curiously enough, by the same industrial pollution that supposedly caused our decent toward another "ice age" in the 1970s. Typically, the alarmists ignored or hid certain cogent facts, such as the fact that as polar ice caps were melting on earth, they were also melting on Mars!

Of course, more than a decade into the twenty-first century, it has become obvious that 'global warming" was a hoax. But why, following collapse after collapse of these false alarms, do their purveyors persist in coming up with new ones? Perhaps Christine Stewart, when she was Canadian Minister of the Environment, said it best: "No matter if the science of global warming is all phony... climate change provides the greatest opportunity to bring about justice and equality in the world."

Aha! The light dawns. All of these alarms of impending disasters - from the Club of Rome's population explosion through the phosphate and acid rain scares to the "global warming" hoax - are designed to accomplish only one thing: the erosion of Capitalism. There is an international conspiracy, fostered under the aegis of the UN and codified in UN Agenda 21, to redistribute the wealth of the nations who were energetic enough to create it to those who are either too lazy or too ignorant to make their own wealth - an ignorance exemplified by the fact that they consider Capitalism to be the hoarder of wealth, and do not recognize that it is the creator of wealth.

How do we protect ourselves from being taken in by these persistent and insidious attacks against the freedoms and values of America? Your only defense is to educate yourself to the extent that you recognize these threats as nothing more than lies and terrorism, so that the next time the silly little shepherd boy cries "wolf," you can ignore him with impunity.

Do You Have Key Man Insurance to Cover Your Highest Performing Employees?

Most companies have one or more "ringers." In your company, you know who these people are: top salespeople or "producers," key executives, owners, etc. In small- to medium-sized businesses especially, these are the people crucial to success because of their talent, specialized skills, experience, knowledge of your company and many other factors.

Simply put, they're the ones who get the tough jobs done and keep revenue streaming into your business.

Now, imagine if one of your ringers was suddenly gone due to death or disability. What would the short- and long-term effects on your company be?

Key man insurance - which may also be called "key employee," "key person" or "key executive" insurance - could be the answer to protect your company.

How Key Man Insurance Works

Key man insurance is a life and disability insurance policy that companies take out on key personnel, usually with a specific dollar-amount benefit for each individual covered. In the event of a covered employee's death or disability, the company - not the employee - receives the benefit.

How Much Coverage Do You Need?

Once you've determined who your key employees are, your insurance agent can help you walk through a number of factors to determine how much coverage you need. At a minimum, you want to make sure you're covered for the considerable cost of recruiting, hiring and training someone capable of taking a key employee's place.

Other things to consider if you were to lose a key employee:

Would you experience falling sales? Would you lose critical management skills that could lead to reduced productivity? What would your short- and long-term revenue losses be?

Certain businesses - in particular professional service firms - have other factors to consider. For example:

A law firm or medical practice usually can't replace a 30-year veteran with a recent graduate - or if they do, can't expect the replacement to generate the same revenue until years later. If the key person is a partner in the firm, who will inherit his or her share of the business in the event of death? If it's a family member, are they being groomed to step in as a partner, or will they need to be bought out?

It's important to remember that while life insurance is an important part of a key man policy, the odds of disability are much higher. So, make sure any policy you consider provides both life and disability coverage. Also, keep in mind that in some cases, premium for these policies can be written off as a business expense -and any benefits received are usually tax free.

Controlling Copyright: Stifling Creativity, Innovation and Growth?

Debate over copyright is not a matter of new. However, since the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act ("CTEA") 1998 came into law in the US and The Duration of Copyright and Rights in Performances Regulations 1995 (SI 1995/3297) was introduced in the UK, (implementing the European Economic Community, Council Directive No.93/98/EEC), controls over copyright have been a matter of contention.

Copyright protects software, literary and artistic creations. It is a branch of intellectual property law, that protects the skill, labour and time spent in the production of creative cultural works (the 'intellectual property'), also referred to as 'public goods' because of their availability in the public domain. Copyright protects the intangible asset imbedded or fixed within a physical object, for example, the text within a book, or the music on a CD rather than the book or the CD itself.

Historically, it has never been easy for any author of literary or artistic creations to successfully sell their cultural works without a contract from a large media corporation such as a major book publishing company, film studio or recording label. During the 1950's and 60's, the music industry in the UK, in particular, saw many independent labels (often set up by producers and artists as outlets for their work), fail as commercial enterprises or simply get taken over by larger corporations, as a result of the power held by these major companies. The inability of any author to fully exploit the rights vested in their works has generally meant they are forced to sell or assign their rights to a third party who has the means for production and distribution of those works. This essentially led to the growth and development of media enterprises that now exist as large powerful, media corporations. These corporations who buy copyright from artists, or invest and commission production of such products, concentrate copyrights within their own institutions. These are the organisations who are most concerned about misappropriation of copyright material and who have been seizing control through the use of technical protection measures (TPMs) and content management systems (CMSs), with the full backing of the law.

Legislative changes in favour of commerce

The ease with which copyright material can now be copied and disseminated, particularly via the internet means the cost of enforcing the law within and beyond national boundaries is a burdensome task for any State. Media corporations who have invested in intellectual property, are primarily concerned about protecting their investments, and the threat perceived to be posed by cyberspace has driven industry to lobby the state for changes in the law to protect these investment. As a result, the responsibility for enforcement of rights has shifted to the author to determine access as they see fit, the legal foundations for this having been laid down by law.

Following on from the Berne Convention, the WIPO Treaty of 1996, established the initial framework, providing authors of literary and artistic works, the "exclusive right of authorizing any communication to the public of their works, by wire or wireless means"; it provided contracting States, the power to employ "effective legal remedies against the circumvention of effective technological measures" which the authors may use to exercise their rights and "effective legal remedies" against unauthorised removal of electronic rights management information and distribution, broadcast or communication of any material that has been subject to removal of rights management information.

For some time now, corporations have been employing TPMs (electronic means to protect against access, i.e. encrypted material that can only be accessed after purchase of key) and CMSs (visible or non-visible material design to track use of copyright material) to control use of their intellectual property. The film and tv industry have also initiated public campaigns to make people more aware that unauthorised copying or downloading of copyright material is theft. Many in the UK, will be familiar with the "knock-off Nigel campaign", initiated in 2007. For some time, the finger has also been directed at ISP providers to cooperate in the war against copyright theft and in 2010, the UK introduced the Digital Economy Act. This acts grants powers to rights holders to work in conjunction with ISP providers, to facilitate tracking down and suing persistent infringers of copyright. The process involves the rights holder gathering IP addresses of acts of infringement, supplying this information to the ISP provider who in turn is requested to provide an anonymous list of all subscribers deemed to have reached the threshold level of infringement (as determined by Ofcom). This information is then presented before a Judge, for a Court Order requesting the names of the subscribers, and from this, litigation against the alleged offender can be instituted.

Are we moving in the right direction?

It is not unreasonable to expect there to be fair compensation for the time, effort, labour and skill invested in cultural works. However, a balance needs to be established between commercial rights and society's right to gain access to knowledge and information. The fundamental flaw of a system in which law passes enforcement to the hands of commerce is that with their self-interests at heart, public interests are not a consideration for these private companies. This contradicts the basic and historic principal purpose of copyright as a means of incentivising creation, encouraging learning, and enabling the cultural enrichment of society. Simply put, a vested right to the author and user.

Advances in digital technology, the internet and growth of social networking sites, have been instrumental in facilitating access to the means of production and distribution of cultural works enabling creators of such to market their work. The movie, Blair Witch Project,1999, was an early testament to this, and it is now easier to self-publish and distribute your own book online or make your music available to others globally. However, this technology has also created another avenue for corporations to seek out and acquire more intellectual property rights. A number of recording artists like Justin Bieber have been discovered, signed up, and packaged after being spotted on YouTube. This in itself can be a barrier to individual creativity, as the artist is generally obliged to comply with some formulaic economic marketing model designed and determined by the record company.

In exploring the argument that copyright laws stifle creativity, we need only look at the continued exploitation of works in the public domain by the Disney Corporation. This organisation strategically chose to create films from public domain material (such as Little Red Riding Hood; Jack and the Bean Stalk, and Snow White), because audiences were familiar with these characters (from traditional folk tales), and they provided an already established fan base, which created a safer economic bet that audience would come to see the latest version of the tale. A sensible, strategic commercial decision, most would agree. However, such was Walt Disney's commitment to using public domain works, he would wait until he was quite sure all rights had lapsed before proceeding with any project (the reason his Alice in Wonderland movie was put on hold until 1951). No doubt, using public domain material is a safe option in economic terms, but on the flip side, it thwarts effort in new creativity as what we have is a regurgitation, albeit adapted, of already existent material.

Harvard Professor, Lawrence Lessig, has been vocal about developments in the law thwarting creative expression. In a speech he gave at New York Public Library, on 26 February 2009, he spoke about the video of a 13 months old child dancing to music, that was uploaded YouTube by the child's mother to share with her mother, and how the rightholder demanded the social networking site remove this video because it infringed their copyright. He spoke also of a photo of Obama, which had been graphically adapted, and the rightholder subsequently demanding payment from the artist for the right to that creative expression. Lessig questioned where we are heading when "serious people sitting around a serious conference table" feel it necessary "to invoke the laws of congress" to such expression or personal rights of enjoyment (as in the aforementioned case). Equally I ask, is the direction we are heading really where we want to go?

Conclusion:

The current system is without doubt weighted in favour of commercial interests in copyright. The objective of the Government is to encourage innovation and growth. However with the emphasis on infringement, and developments in the law that force ISP providers into becoming enforcers of copyright law (the Digital Economy Act, is a clear illustration of this), it is likely the direction we are heading will be counter-productive to innovation and growth. A system that is too weak can no doubt limit innovation and reduce the incentive to produce and supply cultural goods, by failing to provide the opportunity for a satisfactory return on investment. However, a system which overly protects IPRs can be both socially and economically counter-productive as it can hinder the dissemination of cultural works, and also reduce innovation by stifling opportunities to explore and develop new models that exploit the internet and digital services. Past technological developments are testimony to this. The popularity of television in the 60s was initially viewed as a threat to the studios, before they realised the potential revenue that could be gleaned from old movies left sitting in their archives. Equally so, video recorders, cable TV and DVD were seen as a threat to the studios until they recognised the economic windows of opportunity available through an extended distribution chain.

Balancing commercial interests in public goods against the provision of public goods for the cultural enrichment of society, whilst incentivising innovation and creating growth, is by no means a simple task. So, in trying to establish a system which balances both objectives, where should the focus lie?

The answer is likely to be found in exploring the concept that infringement is not the most critical barrier to innovation, and by revisiting current economic models and exploring options for developing new ones.

Industry claims some £400m a year is lost due to acts of copyright infringement in the UK, but does the amount of revenue claimed to be lost as a result of acts of infringement actually outweigh the costs of enforcement? Following a Freedom of Information Act request, Ofcom revealed, the cost of implementing the DEA between 2010-2012, to be c. £6 million. These costs are expected to be recouped from rightsholders and ISP providers who will be responsible for the cost of enforcement to the ratio of 75:25 respectively. Realistically, these costs are likely be clawed back from consumers, which means that prices would need to rise to accommodate this.

Perhaps we should take some lessons from the past, and consider the money spent on legislative changes, tracking down infringers, and the litigation and prosecution of individuals for acts of infringement, might be better spent in researching new ways in which the internet and digital technology can be exploited to provide new business models, and also putting in place more effective methods of working with consumers/the public at large to build respect for copyright. If energies were directed as such, maybe we would move much closer to a system which rewarded commercial investment in cultural works, encouraged innovation and growth, whilst facilitating fair and reasonable access for all members of society.

Eco Volunteering in Costa Rica

Are you an eco-adventurer? If your idea of the perfect trip is getting up close and personal with the natural world, you will want to check out Costa Rica. From the lush jungles to the colorful coral reefs, this region is one of the earth's most distinctive ecosystems. Misty cloud forests, black sand beaches, thick rainforests and rushing river rapids offer outdoor activities for active travelers as well as nature enthusiasts. A dazzling array of creatures, including monkeys, sloths, crocodiles, jaguars, sea turtles and poison dart frogs. These are just a few examples of the wildlife that lives in Costa Rica's many natural parks. It is widely known for its proliferation of wildlife refuges and the diversity of its animals and plants. This creates opportunities for nature-loving travelers to volunteer in one of the many eco-programs in one of the Costa Rican destinations promoting these standards.

On one of the many beautiful beaches of Costa Rica, eco volunteers can come to be a part and support the sea turtles. They are currently struggling to survive as a result of human poachers and the erosion of the nesting sites. You could do this through an organization like Earthwatch where you would be in Guanacaste. Responsibilities would include tasks like monitoring nesting leatherback turtles, measuring and tagging each of them, recording nest locations and counting the eggs to help researchers determine exactly what factors are influencing nesting success for this critically endangered species. For fun when there is recreational time, you can go for a swim in the ocean or their pool, have a snack at a beach side restaurant, touring the mangrove statuary, take a sailboat cruise or just enjoy the beach. While volunteering you can meet and bond with other like-minded people from all over the globe.

If social work is more your thing, you can get involved with the local communities of San Jose in Costa Rica. San Jose is the capital and is characterized by its lush green mountains, cloud forests, volcanoes and valleys. Volunteering can be done by joining a social work project through the organization GO Eco which would allow you to help children or the elderly. Participants would get to choose what project they would be most interested in assisting with. Some options include, but are not limited to: teaching arts and crafts, teaching a language, teaching computer skills, playing sport and outdoor games, helping out with light chores for day-to-day chores of the homes and helping in the improvement and embellishment of the facilities of the projects.

For eco travelers who are interested in organic and sustainable farming volunteers can find plenty of opportunities to help out in Costa Rica. You could go through the organization IFRE Volunteers Abroad to donate your time sporting a coffee plantation project. Partnered with the local cooperative, Coopeatenas, volunteers would work directly alongside farmers, helping to set up new systems of agriculture and possibly conducting interviews and surveys. The bulk of the time would be spent physically at the farm, picking coffee, learning and sharing information about organic practices.

3 Ways to Promote Cost Per Acquisition Sites Online

Promoting anything online can be a tall task without having all the resources and the know how to get there. That is why having a good source for information is great. That is why you are reading this now because you are looking for quality information about promoting CPA programs online.

Let's take a look at some good ways to promote your cost per acquisition site online. There are three easy ways to promote online; blogging, classified ads and Pay Per Click.

1. Pay Per Click (PPC)

This is one of the more typical ways to make money with CPA programs. The only thing that can really kill you here is if you are miscalculating the numbers between you making money and you having to spend it on a PPC program.

You absolutely cannot spend any more than.25cents on the dollar. Why? Because you need leverage so when you do get a lead or sign up, you can at least break even.

This is assuming you did the correct research and collect the right amount of keywords to reach solid numbers.

Bottom line here is you don't want to lose more than you want to make.

2. Blogging

This is a very popular way to get traffic and has been the most stable means of getting traffic since the internet has been around. The way you need to blog your CPA programs is to surround a general theme around the program.

Don't try and stuff as many programs as you can in the blog. Just relax and write about the industry or topic revolving around the program you are promoting. This will get you in good with your readers.

Make sure your topics are ultra-specific. For example, if you are promoting a CPA company that sells golf clubs, create one blog talking about putting, create a blog talking about driving, etc. you get the point.

3. Classified ads

Submitting your site to classified ads is another great way to get free traffic to your CPA site. The same principles apply to what I mentioned in the blogging section. You will need to write an ad that is focused on something ultra-specific. You can even use the ad as a gateway to your blog.

The greatest tip you need to know, however, is to make sure your ads and the program all match the category of choice. If not then you run the risk of getting your ad flagged, banned or ghosted.

Tax Resolution - Installment Agreement

Last week we discussed your potential options for resolving outstanding tax debt. Now we're going to take an in depth look at one such option: an Installment Agreement. This arrangement essentially consists of making an offer to pay off the tax debt with a series of monthly payments. If the IRS agrees that the offered monthly payment will pay the debt soon enough, a financial agreement is locked in. It then becomes your responsibility to make those payments every month until the agreement is complete.

Streamlined Installment Agreements: As of May 7, 2012, taxpayers with a tax debt of less than $50,000, are eligible for the Service's "Fresh Start" initiative. The IRS will agree to your offered monthly payment as long as it pays the tax debt off in 6 years or less. Keep in mind that the total amount paid needs to include interest that will continue to accrue as well as other penalties. The IRS will also demand payment in full prior to the expiration of the 10-year statute of limitation for collecting tax debts if the agreement goes beyond that date.

Guaranteed Installment Agreements: The IRS is compelled to accept offers for installment agreements if you meet the certain conditions and your tax debt is less than $10,000.

• Your monthly payments will pay the tax debt within 3 years.

• You have not filed all any late tax returns for the past 5 years and have not paid late.

• You have not had a prior installment agreement for the past 5 years.

You can calculate an effective monthly payment by dividing your total tax debt by 30. This ensures that interest added for each monthly payment will not extend the agreement beyond 3 years.

Both types of agreements require that you have filed all required tax returns. The IRS also wants your promise to timely file and pay future tax returns. It will also be necessary to make payments on time every month. Any late payment will place you in default and at the mercy of the IRS.

The greatest benefit of setting up an install agreement is that you avoid the very damaging effects of a federal tax lien. The IRS will spare no effort in collecting what it feels you owe, but install agreement lets you control the terms of repayment. Furthermore, you can avoid the difficulty of completing a financial statement in which the IRS analyzes your situation.

It is crucial that you contact an experienced tax professional to handle required negotiations with the IRS no matter how much your tax debt. Contact Good Attorneys at Law if you should find yourself in that unfortunate situation to get the best possible outcome. Tune in next week, as we will explore Partial Payment Installment Agreements.

Control Your Sales Calls From The Start

Sales calls that you control are what all salespeople want. I am a big believer that questioning is the most important skill for sales professionals. In order to stay in control of your sales calls, whether by phone or in person, you need to be the one asking questions most of the time. To be the one asking questions most of the time, you have to get to questioning right from the start of your sales calls. This issue's tip is about how to make this transition quickly with finesse, whether you are calling by phone or are in person. To accomplish this, you will need to eliminate beginning your sales calls with long-winded "presentations" about your company. This may seem counter-intuitive. You may have reasoned that your prospect doesn't know who you are, and needs your introductory "presentation" as background for a sales discussion. Although this is the mode many of us are used to, the reality is different. If you politely give your customer a valid business reason for you to ask questions from the start, you will find that virtually all of your customers will let you do this. You will then be able to spend most of your valuable time investigating what your customer wants and needs. OK so here's how you do this. Once your sales calls have started and you have established rapport, you say something like the following:

"Mr. Jones, I am with XYZ Company, and we help companies to [insert your benefit here]. What I would like to do today is ask you a few questions to see if it makes sense for our companies to do business together. How does that sound to you?" You can modify the above to your own style, but let me first show you what makes this opening work. In reverse order, you are asking permission to ask questions, you are stating that your purpose is to see if it makes sense to do business together, and you are suggesting a common benefit of doing business with your company. By asking permission to ask questions, you establish the format of your sales calls, and put yourself firmly in charge. In stating that you want to see if it makes sense to do business together, you are saying that this is a mutual decision, and that you aren't just out to sell them something that they may not need. By suggesting a common benefit of doing business with you, you are giving a prospect, who may not know much about you, a reason to continue with the sales call. Until a prospect has decided that you understand their business problems, a simple benefit of doing business with you suffices to get your sales calls started. If your company is a known quantity in your market or to your prospect, you can skip the benefit completely as the prospect already has a reason and context for the discussion. There's no need for long-winded openers on your sales calls. © 1999-2004 Shamus Brown, All Rights Reserved.
